The Run Run Shaw Library of City University of Hong Kong is seeking a knowledgeable, energetic, and self-motivated professional to help in the construction, delivery and/or promotion of its research data management services and other research support initiatives.

Duties

The appointee will work under the Research Support and Scholarly Communication Section of the Library and collaborate closely with other librarians to plan, develop, coordinate, deliver and promote related services to support researchers in the face of new trends and demands in the emerging funding publishing and scholarly communication environments. Major duties include but not limited to:

  1. Actively participate in the development and customisation of the University’s institutional research data repository in collaboration with other stakeholders concerned and establish use policies;
  2. Support researchers in depositing datasets in repositories, including the institutional or other repositories that meet quality criteria; provide advice on metadata and ontology for describing datasets;
  3. Promote awareness of research data management practices/principles and related library support services by developing related workshops, offering consultation services, preparing training and publicity materials, maintaining LibGuides and outreaching to faculty members;
  4. Assist researchers in establishing data management plans with tools and sharing data in repositories to meet funder and journal requirements;
  5. Participate in the portal migration project for the University’s integrated research information management system in terms of user interface design, new feature assessment and adoption, as well as user education and support;
  6. Help in research impact measurement services by making use of different research analysis and benchmarking tools to identify suitable bibliometrics and non-traditional indicators as evidence to demonstrate the academic, social and political impact of research for different disciplines;
  7. Participate in other research support services/projects and cross-sectional initiatives and duties as needed or as assigned; and
  8. Keep abreast of the trends and developments in the emerging funding, publishing and scholarly communication environment and continuously self-upgrade with the necessary skills for new services.

Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s degree plus a postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science or related disciplines (preferably from a data-intensive field);
  2. Not less than 12 years’ solid managerial/specialist experience, preferably in the tertiary educational sector or an academic library environment;
  3. Training in data management and experiences in managing, curating or preserving research data; demonstrated understanding of issues and technical challenges on data management such as format migration, preservation metadata and data retrieval and use;
  4. Knowledge of the research cycle and the latest trends for research data management and open science;
  5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English and Chinese (including fluency in Putonghua) as well as good customer service skills; and
  6. Demonstrated professionalism with strong motivation, innovation, flexibility, commitment, attention to detail and multitasking capability is required.
  7. Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and collegially with other colleagues.

Candidates with less experience may be considered for appointment as Assistant Librarian II.

Candidates with no postgraduate qualification in Library Science may be considered for appointment as Manager.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
