M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, we are building one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world, with a bold ambition to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. Our aim is to create a new kind of museum that reflects our unique time and place, a museum that builds on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.

You will be responsible for: 

  • performing original and copy cataloguing in all formats in English, Chinese and other languages; 
  • supervising the day-to-day running of the library, accurately dealing with the shelving, order and management of the space; 
  • assisting in describing digital resources using appropriate metadata schemas; 
  • cataloguing library materials and correcting existing bibliographic records as needed; 
  • working on the library’s inventory, updating and maintaining accurate records; compiling monthly statistics as required; 
  • processing interlibrary loan requests; 
  • processing and acknowledging gifts; 
  • assisting with all Library acquisitions and materials ordering; 
  • assisting library users with research needs and library instruction; 
  • supervising library interns and volunteers when required; and 
  • contributing to the research for public events in the Research Centre and assisting with their organisation. 

You should: 

  • possess a recognised university degree in Library or Information Sciences, or related field; 
  • have at least 3 years of experience working in a museum or art related library; 
  • good understanding of integrated library systems; experience of ALMA and PRIMO library systems is desirable; 
  • possess relevant working knowledge of library terminology and standard library practices, including AACR2/ RDA cataloguing rules, MARC 21 bibliographic record structure and Dewey Decimal Classification; 
  • experience of maintaining an electronic catalogue and performing original and copy cataloguing based on current standards; 
  • ability to work meticulously and independently as well as work as part of a team; 
  • excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, initiative, and flexibility; and 
  • excellent written and verbal communication in English and Chinese.
