Assistant Library Officer

The appointee will work in the Cataloguing & Preservation Team of the Library. He/she is required to (i) perform original and copy cataloguing and end-processing of library materials in all formats according to international standards and in-house rules; (ii) maintain authority control for bibliographical records; (iii) assist in updating bibliographic, authority, item and holding records in the Alma Library System; (iv) assist in collecting cataloguing statistics and compiling reports; (v) perform counter and shift duties on regular basis, including evenings, weekends and public holidays; and (vi) undertake other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Applicants should have (i) a good university degree; (ii) cataloguing and end-processing experience in libraries, preferably in academic libraries; (iii) knowledge of latest cataloguing rules and standards such as Resource Description & Access, MARC21, Library of Congress Subject Headings and LC classification scheme as well as other non-MARC metadata schemas; (iv) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; (v) good communication and interpersonal skills; (vii) the ability to work independently and within a team; and (viii) working experience with integrated library system, preferably the Alma/Primo Systems. Candidates with a Library Science qualification will be an advantage. Candidates with less/more experience will also be considered for appointment at the relevant rank.
Salary and Benefits
The rank and commencing salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits, where applicable, include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund and gratuity.
