Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant Research Services Librarian (at the rank of Assistant Librarian II) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 508384), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants should possess: (1) a Bachelor’s degree and a recognized professional qualification in library and information science (e.g. M.L.S. or equivalent) OR a Master’s degree or an advanced degree relevant to the position; (2) 3-5 years of relevant experience in academic libraries, OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience working with learning and research processes; (3) research experience or basic knowledge of research cycle; (4) sound knowledge of and practical experience in the programming language including Python, R, and Javascript; (5) hands-on experience in database administration/engineering (PostgreSQL and/or MySQL) and git code management practices; (6) experience in using business intelligence (BI) tools such as Alteryx, Tableau or Power BI, and/or performing data analysis (highly desirable); (7) excellent organizational and project management skills; (8) the ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and collegially with other colleagues; and (9) demonstrated professionalism with strong motivation, innovation, flexibility and commitment.

The appointee will work under the supervision of the Data and Scholarly Communication Librarian and Associate Librarian (Learning and Research Services).  He/She will work with the Data and Scholarly Communication Librarian to develop and manage activities to support the bibliometrics and research impact services; work collaboratively with the Technology Support Services (TSS) and Subject Librarians in developing the HKU Scholars Hub and research data services; design, develop and maintain effective online and print reports related to bibliometrics and research impact; analyze trends and patterns over time using benchmarks and comparative data from different sources; explore and answer the methodological questions related to bibliometrics; provide data analysis and visualization consultation services for the RPG students and staff; and develop the HKU ejournal publishing platform (Open Journal System).

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
