Access Services Librarian (at the rank of Assistant Manager I/II)

Reporting to the Associate Librarian or his/her delegate, the appointee will work in the Access Services team of the Library to undertake the following responsibilities with 80% in Access Services and 20% in Learning Support and Liaison.

Responsibilities 

  • Assist to plan and implement policies, procedures and management of access services and resources sharing services, as well as management of the physical library premises and facilities
  • Manage the daily operation of the access services, including managing operating budget, developing and maintaining counter roster, compiling statistics reports, supervising and training staff
  • Collaborate with the Learning Support team for information literacy and liaison activities
  • Organize and conduct workshops and seminars
  • Represent the Library and participate in different committees and task forces both internally and externally
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and University Librarian
  • Shift duties on evenings, weekends and public holidays will be required

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, particularly in the humanities, business or social sciences
  • Recognized professional qualifications in Librarianship (MLS or equivalent)
  • At least three years of relevant post-qualification working experience in libraries, preferably in academic libraries
  • Proven ability to deal with the public, manage staff and organize complex projects
  • A good command of English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua)
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Candidates with a solid background in Access Services, Reference or Learning Support will be an added advantage

Candidates with less/more experience will also be considered for appointment at the relevant rank.

Responsibilities 

  • Report to the Chief Information Officer and University Librarian
  • Directly manage the Cataloguing and Preservation team to ensure its smooth operations including direct staff supervision, training, and budget management
  • Oversee the cataloguing and preservation of library materials in all formats including bibliographic and authority records creation and control to ensure a high-quality international standard and end-processing of all types of materials
  • Formulate cataloguing and record control policies, procedures, and workflow to enhance the efficiency of the team
  • Monitor the quality of bibliographic, holding, item and authority records in all formats and portfolios information in a shared Integrated Library System on Alma, and assess their impact on the library discovery tool on Primo
  • Perform complex original cataloguing of all languages and formats according to in-house rules and international standards and schema
  • Identify and lead projects related to the discovery and access of library resources
  • Represent the Library in different committees and task forces both internally and externally
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
  • Shift duties on evenings, weekends and public holidays will be required

Requirements

  • Recognized professional qualifications in Librarianship (MLS or equivalent)
  • 3 – 10 years of relevant work experience in libraries, preferably in cataloguing in academic libraries
  • Sound knowledge of international cataloguing standards, such as RDA, AACR2, MARC21, LCSH, LCCS and linked data using metadata management tools such as MARCEdit, RDA, OCLC Connexion, access, authority control, batch processing techniques, etc.
  • Solid work experience with Alma / Primo Systems
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, supervision and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in teams

Responsibilities

  • Support the provision and implementation of a suite of services to support activities arisen throughout the research lifecycle, including but not limited to research consultation, open access, researcher identity management, research impact and analytics
  • Assist to manage University’s Research Information Management System (RIMS) and Digital publishing platform
  • Assist to design and develop graphical or multi-media materials to support training events, webpage development or other public showcases
  • Support digitization and publishing activities to disseminate intellectual outputs or creative works produced by Lingnan community
  • Shift duties on evenings, weekends and public holidays will be required
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Requirements

  • A recognized university degree in any disciplines
  • Good data skills, with interest in developing data analytics
  • Knowledge of graphical / web design software (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign)
  • Knowledge of website coding will be an advantage
  • Attentive to details
  • Good command of both written and verbal English and Chinese
  • Ability to work in teams and independently
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fresh graduates will also be considered
