The University Library (http://library.hkbu.edu.hk) now seeks an enthusiastic team player to join its User and Information Services Cluster at the Au Shue Hung Memorial Library (Main Library). The successful candidate will provide various information and user services, with a focus on counter service and Leganto Reading Lists.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and updating the Leganto configurations and workflows with Alma (Integrated Library System) and Moodle (Course Management System);
  • Process course readings requests and create Leganto Reading Lists;
  • Create promotional and instructional guides and web pages for library resources and services;
  • Handle reference enquiries in person, phone, email and chat environments;
  • Perform shift counter duties at the Main Library User Services Counter / Information Desk; and
  • Participate in any other tasks as assigned by his/her supervisors.

Requirements:

Applicants should have (i) a good university degree; (ii) at least 4 years’ relevant experience, preferably in an academic library setting; (iii) current knowledge of Alma, Primo, Leganto, Moodle and other eLearning tools; (iv) strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with stakeholders within and outside of the Library; and (v) excellent communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua).

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Applicants with less relevant work experience and knowledge may be considered for the post of Assistant Library Officer. The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract of two years.

Project Administrator (23240562)

The Library now seeks an enthusiastic team player to join its Digital Initiatives and Research Cluster (DIR). The successful candidate will be a proactive and eager learner, working in a team to provide support across diverse areas of services. The position will:

  • Assist in data cleaning and indexing for digital scholarship projects;
  • Provide training to project/junior staff for data indexing and enhancement purposes;
  • Assist in processing institutional research and publication metadata;
  • Assist in data literacy educational activities, including organising workshops, managing online course rooms, and developing training material;
  • Assist in the procurement, installation, post-installation checking and preparation of user guides for data software applications; and
  • Participate in any other tasks as assigned by his/her supervisors.

This position also provides counter service in the Library’s Multimedia Learning Centre. Shift counter duties are required.

Applicants should possess at least a bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science or related disciplines with 3-5 years of related experience. Online system development experience is required. Work experience in Python, MySQL, JavaScript, PHP, Google Maps APIs, and Excel is expected. Understanding of XML, JSON-LD, RDF, schema.org, SPSS, ArcGIS, and/or Tableau is a plus.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Assistant Library Officer (23240556)

The Library now seeks an enthusiastic team player to join the Special Collections and Archives team.  The successful candidate will be a proactive and eager learner, working in a small team responsible for managing and providing access to special and archival collections. The appointee will:

  • Provide user services at service counters and online;
  • Process archival and library materials in the University Archives;
  • Contribute to digitisation projects including scanning and indexing;
  • Contribute to preservation and conservation of archival and library materials; and
  • Contribute to the web archiving program.  

Applicants should possess at least a bachelor’s degree with preferably two years’ experience. This position requires a good eye for detail, excellent communication skills, good computer skills and a service-oriented attitude.  A good command of English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua) and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team are important. Applicants will be required to undertake shift duties on user service counters in evening/weekend/public holidays.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a written test.
