Duties

The appointee will (a) provide instructional and consultation services for students and academics on finding, using and managing information effectively; (b) develop and promote the Library’s information literacy programmes; (c) collaborate and liaise with academics to ensure Library’s resources and services meet their learning and teaching needs, and (d) perform any other duties as assigned.

The appointee may be required to work on shift duties on evenings, and weekends on either the PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus or PolyU West Kowloon Campus.

Qualifications

Applicants should have (a) a recognised degree with a postgraduate qualification in Library Science, Information Science or other relevant disciplines and preferably working experience in an academic library setting; (b) good knowledge of library electronic resources, online learning and teaching platforms and emerging instructional technologies, bibliographical management tools; (c) excellent interpersonal, instructional, presentation and customer service skills, and (d) high proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese.

Conditions of Service

An attractive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be made on a two-year contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.

Assistant Information Technology Officer (Ref. 230525-13)

Duties

The appointee will (a) participate in the deployment of in-house web applications and webservices; (b) enhance and support the existing library information systems, applications and databases; (c) carry out system testing, data migration, documentation and user training; (d) explore new technologies applicable to new features, and (e) perform any other duties as assigned.

The appointee may be required to work on shift duties in evenings, weekends and on public holidays on either the PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus or PolyU West Kowloon Campus.

Qualifications

Applicants should have (a) a recognized degree in Information Technology, Computing Studies or a related discipline; (b) at least two years of relevant post-qualification work experience; (c) hands-on experience in PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, XML and the tools for web developments; (d) hands-on experience in server administration of Linux operation system and VMWare; (e) practical experience in provision of support services to users; (f) high proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese, and (g) good multi-tasking, interpersonal and communication skills.

Possession of knowledge and experience of INNOPAC Millennium system and discovery services will be advantageous. Preference will be given to those with knowledge of academic library operations.

Duties

Appointees will be required to perform duties in one of the following service areas and any other duties as assigned:

Academic Support
(a) assist in the planning and implementation of learning and teaching enhancement activities and workshops;
(b) assist in the promotion and use of the library printed and electronic resources, and
(c) provide administrative support for technical processing of library materials.

Cataloguing
(a) perform copy cataloguing and classify library materials in various formats;
(b) maintain authority control for bibliographic records, and
(c) perform end-processing of new library materials.

Systems Support
(a) assist in maintaining library systems and databases;
(b) assist in designing, developing, and updating the library websites and web applications, and
(c) prepare statistical reports.

User Services
(a) perform user services comprising circulation, enquiry, shelving and collection maintenance,
(b) assist in user area maintenance and promotion of library activities, and
(c) assist users in the use of library services, resources and facilities.

Appointees will be required to work on shift duties in daytime/evening time on weekdays and/or Saturdays on either the PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus or PolyU West Kowloon Campus.

Qualifications

Applicants should have the following qualifications and qualities:

(a) at least Grade E/Level 2 or equivalent in five subjects in HKCEE or HKDSEE including English Language (at least Grade C if Syllabus A), Chinese Language and Mathematics;
(b) five years of relevant working experience or above;
(c) good proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese;
(d) good interpersonal and customer service skills, and
(e) proficiency in computer applications including MS Word, Excel and Chinese word processing.

Possession of good knowledge of graphic design or web development tools will be advantageous.

Applicants with higher qualifications but less experience will also be considered.

Duties

Appointees will serve one of the following areas:

A) Acquisitions

The appointee will (a) perform routine deduplication, seek quotations, place orders and process invoices for all library acquisitions; (b) receive and inspect all materials purchased by the library; (c) carry out simple copy cataloguing; (d) handle administrative duties, including but not limited to taking care of library supplies, furniture and equipment in good condition and sufficient quantity, and (e) perform any other duties as assigned.

B) User Services

The appointee will (a) provide services at the library counter; (b) assist in shelving and reorganisation of books; (c) perform library patrol and in-library user counting; (d) perform inventory check; (e) provide support to new books processing, book display and other promotional activities, and (f) perform any other duties as assigned.

Appointees will be required to work on shift duties in daytime/evening time on weekdays and/or Saturdays on either the PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus or PolyU West Kowloon Campus.

Qualifications

Applicants should have the following qualifications and qualities:

Duties

The appointee will (a) manage the Integrated Library System, discovery platform and other Library mission critical systems, including in-house developed databases; (b) manage electronic resources, develop digital library applications, e-learning related systems and the Libraries website; (c) oversee all library related information and communication technology applications; (d) lead the Systems and Academic Support Section to provide a wide range of quality services; (e) develop and implement new initiatives; (f) liaise with internal and external service providers, and (g) perform any other duties as assigned.

The appointee may be required to work on shift duties in evenings, weekends and on public holidays on either the PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus or PolyU West Kowloon Campus.

Qualifications

Applicants should have (a) a recognized degree and a professional qualification in Librarianship (MLS or equivalent); (b) minimum eight years of solid professional and supervisory experience, including experience in systems development and management in academic libraries; (c) working knowledge of Integrated Library System, discovery platform, UNIX, Linux, MS Windows server operating systems; (d) experience in networking, software and Web application development including open source software development and user-interface design; (e) knowledge and experience of programming such as Perl, HTML, PHP, XML, CSS, MySQL, JavaScript and web services based on various APIs; (f) demonstrated supervisory and project management skills; (g) the quality of being mature, independent, responsible, a good team member and an effective team leader, and (h) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese.

Applicants with less experience will be considered for the post of Assistant Librarian I.
