CUHK Assistant Librarian I/II (carrying the job title of “User Services Librarian”)

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Library is seeking a dynamic and innovative User Services Librarian whose main duties encompass enquiry, circulation, registration, interlibrary loan, document delivery, stack management and facilities management services to library users and staff supervision.

Applicants should have (i) a good university degree plus a postgraduate qualification in Librarianship and Information Science, or related discipline; (ii) normally three years of post-qualification relevant experience at a professional or senior paraprofessional level (for Assistant Librarian II) or, normally a minimum of six years’ relevant professional experience, including three years at a supervisory level (for Assistant Librarian I); (iii) experience in providing circulation, access and interlibrary loan services and managing the fulfilment/circulation module in the integrated library system; (iv) demonstrated knowledge of current trends in user services and library technologies; (v) a strong customer service orientation; (vi) excellent problem-solving and project management skills; (vii) a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively; (viii) excellent written and oral communication skills; and (ix) proficiency in English and Chinese.

Reporting to the Head of User Services, the appointee’s duties include (a) participating in the formulation and implementation of user services policies and procedures; (b) exploring and applying emerging technologies to improve service quality; (c) planning and delivering on projects; (d) redesigning workflow processes for efficiency; (e) working cooperatively across the CUHK Library to ensure a cohesive and responsive service; (f) assisting in the management and training of the User Services Team; and (g) other duties and projects as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends or on holidays at library helpdesks are required.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for two years, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
