Assistant Computer Officer

The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library invites applications for an Assistant Computer Officer. The appointee will be assigned to the newly established Research Data Team under the Research Support and Digital Initiatives of the CUHK Library. The Research Data Team is committed to developing a wide range of library support services relating to research data management and application development.
Reporting to the Research Support Unit of the Library, the appointee will (a) work on hardware and software development projects and liaison with providers and vendors; (b) follow up on system development process and keep track of the project status; (c) provide system administration, technical support and user training for applications, projects and systems; (d) provide assistance in the deployment of cloud-based services; and (e) undertake other tasks as assigned.
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science or related disciplines; (ii) at least 3 years’ relevant work experience in software development and/or system support; (iii) demonstrated ability in development on Linux environment; (iv) experience with Java and Python, as well as open source software frameworks; (v) experience in database systems (such as PostgreSQL, MySQL and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Redis) and search platforms (such as Apache Solr API); (vi) good interpersonal, organisational and problem-solving skills; and (vii) good proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese. Experience in cloud platforms (such as AWS) and web application server framework (such as Payara Server) are preferred.
