Executive Officer (Metadata and Bibliographic Services) (Temporary Appointment) (Ref. 250530014)

[Appointment period: twelve months]

 

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) provide administrative support for the daily operations of PolyU Institutional Research Archive (PIRA), including responding to enquiries, sending follow-up emails as needed and compiling statistical reports;

(b) review publishers’ self-archiving policies, liaise with publishers for clarification, and maintain organised records of email correspondence with publishers;

(c) ensure research works submitted to PIRA comply with publishers’ requirements and assist in obtaining permissible versions for open access;

(d) process submissions by creating metadata, preparing files and ensuring their accuracy and accessibility;

(e) supervise and review the work of library assistants to maintain quality standards;

(f) assist in refining policies and procedures to enhance workflow for managing the submission process; and

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates.

 

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a recognised degree, preferably in Library Science or Information Science or related subjects with at least five years of relevant experience, preferably in academic institutions;

(b) knowledge of/interest in metadata schemas, research and publication ecosystems;

(c) strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, and ability to work independently;

(d) good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; and

(e) good computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel and Chinese word processing.
