Hong Kong Shue Yan University Library is inviting applications for the Library Assistant position. The appointee reports to the Cataloguing Librarian.

 

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Cataloguing library materials in both physical and digital formats;
  • Maintaining metadata standards according to established standard and guidelines;
  • Performing physical processing for new arrival items;
  • Organizing and displaying new arrivals and compile statistics;
  • Graphic design for digital collections and/or exhibitions;
  • Providing counter service and Handling inquiries;
  • Performing other duties and tasks as assigned.

 

Candidates for this position should possess the following qualifications:

  • A higher diploma or a bachelor’s degree;
  • Prior experience in an academic library or Alma system experience is desirable;
  • Familiarity with metadata standards (e.g., RDA, AACR2R, MARC21) and classification systems such as Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal;
  • Familiarity with digital formats and the inter-transformation between formats;
  • Basic skills in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva);
  • Proficiency in English & Chinese typing. And good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese;
  • Good computer skills, e.g. MS Office applications;
  • Self-motivation, and strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.

 

Shift duties in evenings and on weekends are required.

 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
