The University Library invites applications for the role of a half-time Library Assistant in the User and Information Services Cluster at the Au Shue Hung Memorial Library (Main Library). This half-time position entails a maximum of 20 working hours each week. The position is focused primarily on providing high-quality counter services.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing excellent counter services with empathy, professionalism, and courtesy;
  • Taking up counter shifts (including on evenings/ Saturdays/ Sundays/ public holidays) for no less than 20 hours per week;

Counter service hours during term time
Mon – Fri: 6:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. (Exam period: till 9:00 p.m.)
Sat: 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Sun: 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Counter service hours during summer
Mon – Fri: 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Sat: 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Sun: Closed

  • Handling basic enquiries in person or by phone; and
  • Assisting in any other tasks assigned by the supervisors to support library operations.

Applicants should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua), as well as hands-on knowledge of MS Office applications. Qualification or work experience in the library field is preferred but not essential. Familiarity with Alma (integrated library system) is an advantage.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
