Library Assistant I (Ref: 2100297)
The appointee will be responsible for assisting the Head of Information Management in overseeing various areas of daily operations within the Section including cataloguing activities, database updating, and copyright management. He/she will supervise and train a team of Library Assistants, Student Helpers and part time staff, provide administrative support to the Section Head, and carry out basic paraprofessional duties including liaisons with library users. The appointee will also serve as supervisor at service counters at the Mong Man Wai Library in Tai Po Campus on a shift basis, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Applicants should have Level 2 or equivalent or above in 5 subjects including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics in the HKDSE; or Grade E (Level 2) or above in at least 5 subjects including Chinese, English (Syllabus B) and Mathematics in HKCEE or equivalent. They should also have recognized library assistant training; at least 5 years of relevant experience preferably in large academic libraries; good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua); proficiency in computer skills including Excel and Chinese typing; substantial experience in using a shared Integrated Library System on Alma and common cataloguing tools including MarcEdit, Cataloger’s Desktop, Classification Web, OCLC Connexion, and RDA Toolkit; knowledge of cataloguing standards such as AACR2, RDA, LCSH, MARC21 and NACO Authority Program; sound understanding of cataloguing workflow in academic libraries; and good interpersonal and communication skills.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe benefits include contract-end gratuity, leave, medical and dental benefits.
