Library Assistant II – (240000W3)
The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library invites applications for a Library Assistant II
(carrying the job title of ‘Archives Assistant’).
The appointee will be assigned to work in the University Archives of the Library. Duties include
(a) sorting, organizing, arranging, and rehousing archival materials in appropriate orders; (b)
performing simple preservation activities for materials, as directed; (c) maintaining the archival
storage in a clean and tidy condition; (d) providing support to projects such as those relating to
digitization, exhibition, or archival descriptions; (e) handling enquiries and participating in
outreach activities; (f) supporting daily operation of the CUHK History Gallery; (g) performing
general clerical duties; and (h) other tasks as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends
or on holidays at library helpdesks are required.
Applicants should have (i) completed secondary education; (ii) Grade E/Level 2 or above in at
least 5 subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English (Syllabus B, or at least Grade C in
Syllabus A); OR any combination of results in at least 5 HKDSE subjects (including Level 2 or
above in Chinese and English): Level 2 or above in NSS subjects; “Attained” or above in ApL
subjects (subject to a maximum of 2subjects); Grade E or above in Other Language subjects; (iii)
demonstrated experience in IT applications, e.g. MS Office and Chinese word-processing; (iv)
an excellent command in both written and spoken English and Chinese; (v) the ability to
organise and prioritise work with accuracy and attention to detail; (vi) the ability to work
independently and collaboratively and communicate effectively, (vii) an attitude of selfmotivation and commitment, (viii) at least 1 years’ work experience in archives, museums or
libraries. Preference will be given to applicants with working knowledge in archival principles
and practices.
Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable
subject to mutual agreement.
