Library Assistant II 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library invites applications for a Library Assistant II. Reporting to Cataloguing Librarian, the appointee will be assigned to work in the Cataloguing Department. Duties include (a) cataloguing and classification of library materials in western languages; (b) authority control of headings in the library catalog; (c) processing appropriate item records to library holdings; and (d) other tasks as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends or on holidays at library helpdesks are required. 
Applicants should have (i) completed secondary education; (ii) Grade E/Level 2 or above in at least 5 subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English (Syllabus B, or at least Grade C in Syllabus A); OR any combination of results in at least 5 HKDSE subjects (including Level 2 or above in Chinese and English): Level 2 or above in NSS subjects; “Attained” or above in ApL subjects (subject to a maximum of 2 subjects); Grade E or above in Other Language subjects; (iii) good communication skills; (iv) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; (v) fast and accurate typing skill; and (vi) good computer skills, e.g. MS Office applications; (vii) Preference will be given to applicants with working knowledge of AACR2, RDA, MARC21 formats, Library of Congress Classification. At least 2 years’ work experience in academic libraries, including use of library management system, is preferred. 

Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
