Library Assistant II 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library invites applications for a Library Assistant II. The appointee will be assigned to the User Services Department. Duties include (a) providing front-line enquiry, counter and roving services to users in a courteous, helpful and efficient manner; (b) providing clerical support to routine and ad hoc projects; (c) assisting in maintaining an orderly, pleasant and safe study environment; (d) updating library webpages and publicity materials; (e) assisting in collation of statistical and financial information; (f) ensuring the Library collections are orderly and tidily displayed; and (g) other duties as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends or on holidays are required. 

Applicants should have (i) completed secondary education; (ii) Grade E/Level 2 or above in at least 5 subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English (Syllabus B, or at least Grade C in Syllabus A); OR any combination of results in at least 5 HKDSE subjects (including Level 2 or above in Chinese and English): Level 2 or above in NSS subjects, “Attained” or above in ApL subjects (subject to a maximum of 2 subjects), and Grade E or above in Other Language subjects; (iii) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; (iv) strong interpersonal and good customer service skills; (v) the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and (vi) good computer skills, including the use of MS Office applications and Chinese word-processing. Relevant work experience in academic libraries, including use of library management system, is preferred. 

Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
