Library Assistant (PR0089/22-23)

The University Library invites applications for an energetic, creative and self-motivated Library Assistant to join the Metadata and Cataloguing Services Team.

The successful candidate will perform a range of duties, including:

a) handle copy and original cataloguing for library resources in a variety of formats, languages and subjects;
b) provide descriptive metadata and subject analysis in adherence to international standards;
c) participate in database maintenance by creating and updating authority records; and
d) assist in batch processing, editing and loading of metadata.

Shift duty on evenings/weekends/public holidays is required.



Applicants should hold a recognised bachelor’s degree or higher diploma/associate degree and a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua). They should have experience with metadata format and content standards, including RDA and MARC21, as well as familiarity with Library of Congress Classification and Library of Congress Subject Headings. Cataloguing experience in an academic library setting plus skills using MarcEdit would be an advantage.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written assessment.

The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
