Senior Assistant Librarian (Acquisitions) (Ref. 250515005-IE)

 

Duties

Reporting to the Associate Librarian (Resource Management), the appointee will oversee the Library’s Acquisitions Section.

The appointee will be required to:

  • plan, manage and supervise the operations of the Acquisitions Section;
  • manage the library budget for print and electronic resources, AV materials, and general purchases;
  • formulate and streamline Library’s book acquisition policies;
  • liaise with academic staff and Faculty Librarians regarding book selections, recommendations and ordering, and soliciting PolyU examination papers and program documents;
  • negotiate with both international and local vendors to secure the best terms for material supply;
  • support Open Access publishing of PolyU researchers, including establishing Transformative Agreements and Subscribe to Open arrangements;
  • assist in managing library weeding exercise;
  • coordinate the purchases of Library’s equipment, software and general expenses items;
  • oversee the library inventory as the Library’s Inventory Controller;
  • serve as library representative in JULAC Hong Kong Monograph Acquisition Consortium; and
  • perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • a recognised university degree with a postgraduate qualification in Library Science or Information Science, and at least eight years of experience;
  • extensive work experience, preferably at supervisory level, within a large library operation or an academic library;
  • proven expertise in managing library budgets and overseeing the procurement of library resources, equipment, software, and general expense items;
  • extensive knowledge of managing various modules of the library integrated system ALMA, and substantial experience in conducting library weeding exercises;
  • demonstrated leadership, strategic planning and project management skills;
  • excellent interpersonal, presentation, and collaboration skills; and
  • excellent spoken and written communication skills in English and Chinese.

 

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
