University Librarian – Library (Ref: UL (LIB) 2022-06-17)

With over 20 staff members, the Library’s current collection includes more than 76,000 printed books, 560,000 electronic books, as well as a large number of e-journals, e-databases and other media resources.  Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research), the University Librarian will oversee all aspects of the Library operations to ensure effective management of its diverse and high-quality services and resources.  He/She will:

(1) provide strategic leadership in the development of all areas of library services to support the University’s missions and visions;
(2) formulate long-range plans to organize, collect and manage a large array of library resources necessary to meet the needs of teaching, learning and research of staff and students;
(3) lead and develop a team of professional and support staff capable of carrying out its specified goals and functions; and
(4) establish and maintain effective liaison with all users of the Library for the continuous improvement and professional development of library services to meet users’ needs.


Applicants should:

(1) possess a recognized university degree and a professional qualification in librarianship (e.g. MLS, MCLIP or AALIA), plus substantial years of post-qualification relevant management and leadership experience in academic libraries;
(2) have in-depth knowledge on different aspects of library services including but not limited to collection development and user services; and
(3) have excellent foresight, critical and analytical abilities, planning and organization, communication and interpersonal skills as well as strong leadership and management capabilities.
