We are excited to announce the second Professional Development Committee talk, co-organized with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Library, titled “AI Tools for Literature Review: A Practical Guide for Librarians“:

Description:

This seminar will introduce the latest AI-powered tools designed to support and accelerate literature reviews. We will explore a range of tools—from general-purpose AI chatbots to research-specific tools—and discuss their capabilities, appropriate use cases, and limitations in academic contexts.

Learning goals:

  • Identify and compare AI tools that support different stages of the literature review process
  • Recommend appropriate tools based on specific research needs and contexts
  • Apply best practices for using AI tools responsibly, including ethical use and integration into research workflows

We will demonstrate these tools: Poe, Grok, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Scite, Elicit, Consensus, Undermind, Ai2 Paper Finder, Notion AI.
The session is designed for librarians, but others who are interested in this topic are also welcome.

Biography:

Aster Zhao is a Research Support librarian and Engineering librarian at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where she works closely with students and faculty to support their research and learning. She enjoys discovering and sharing practical tools that make academic work easier, and has a growing interest in areas like AI literacy, open science, and bibliometrics. Aster finds particular joy in teaching and learning alongside others, and is always curious about how emerging technologies can be integrated into library services.
