LLMs Made Simple: Your Journey from Beginner to AI Application Builder

This Zoom webinar series offers a structured learning journey through the varied landscape of large language models (LLMs), covering topics from open-source tools to commercial platforms. Participants will gain hands-on experience in building LLM-powered AI applications using both traditional coding methods and intuitive no-code solutions. Whether you are a developer or a curious beginner, you will learn to effectively utilize these technologies to build impactful and meaningful applications.

Distinguished Speaker:

Mr. Lewis Li (Head of Library Instruction and Reference Services, Run Run Shaw Library, City University of Hong Kong)

Biography:

Lewis Li is currently the Head of Library Instruction and Reference Services at City University of Hong Kong. He is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and experiences, both in his role as a librarian and as a wushu coach. Lewis enjoys teaching and learning, and he has a strong interest in exploring new AI literacy technologies that can be integrated into modern library services.

Event Details:

This online webinar series will be conducted in English and is designed for participants who are new to the topic and eager to enhance their understanding. The Zoom link will be sent to registrants one week before the webinar.

Webinar 1: Setting Up and Deploying AI-Powered Applications Locally with Ollama (26 Sep 2025) [Registration is closed. Thank you!]
Recording PowerPoint Workshop materials

This webinar will explain step-by-step how to set up and deploy AI-powered applications locally using Ollama. We will cover installation, configuration, and running models efficiently on your machine for seamless offline AI development.
Date: 26 September 2025
Time: 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM (HKT)

Learning goals:
  • – Overview of local AI solutions, with a focus on Ollama and its capabilities.
  • – Understand system and hardware requirements for running large language models (LLMs) locally.
  • – Install and operate LLMs on your machine using Ollama’s setup tools.
  • – Customize and fine-tune models using the Modelfile.
  • – Utilize the Ollama API to build programmatic AI features and workflows.
  • – Develop basic AI-driven applications powered by locally hosted models.
  • – Demonstrate how to integrate Ollama into an agent-based AI workflow using n8n for automation and orchestration.
Required software for the hands-on session:
1. Python Download
Python is a programming language that is widely used in web applications, software development, data science, and machine learning.
2. Visual Studio Code (VS Code) Download
VS Code is a lightweight, powerful code editor we’ll use to explore and edit scripts.
3. Ollama Download
Ollama is a powerful and user-friendly framework for running large language models (LLMs) directly on your local machine.
Webinar 2: Deploying Generative AI with Azure OpenAI Service and Hugging Face (17 Oct 2025) [Registration is closed. Thank you!]
Recording PowerPoint Workshop materials

This webinar covers deploying generative AI via Azure OpenAI and Hugging Face, focusing on practical techniques for building entry-level applications across paid and open-source environments.
Date: 17 October 2025
Time: 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM (HKT)

Learning goals:
  • – Compare commercial and open-source generative AI platforms.
  • – Explore the Azure OpenAI (AOAI) service, including available model types, deployment strategies, and pricing structures.
  • – Get started with Hugging Face (HF) by setting up an account, generating API keys, and managing access tokens.
  • – Develop practical applications using models from AOAI and Hugging Face to solve real-world problems.
  • – Demonstrate how to integrate AOAI and HF models into an agent-based AI workflow using n8n for automation and orchestration.
3. Google Colab
A cloud-based Jupyter notebook environment that provides free access to GPUs and TPUs for running Python code.
