Library Assistant II – (240001DV)

Library Assistant II 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Library invites applications for a Library Assistant II. The appointee will be initially assigned to the Learning Services Department of the CUHK Library. The Learning Garden is a technology-rich learning environment equipped with computer workstations, high-performance multimedia workstations designed for film View in SharePoint editing and graphic design, as well as comprehensive 3D printing and scanning facilities. The MakerSpace provides AR and VR facilities, creative media production space for video and VR content as well as maker workspace equipped with various production tools in the Learning Garden. 

Major duties include (a) providing front-line enquiry, counter and roving services; (b) offering clerical and administrative support to the Learning Garden and MakerSpace; (c) organizing events and workshops; (d) assisting users with the operation of MakerSpace equipment; (e) assisting in creating or maintaining library guides and instructional materials to support faculty and students; and (f) other tasks as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends or on holidays are required. 

Applicants should have (i) completed secondary education; (ii) Grade E/Level 2 or above in at least 5 subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English (minimum Grade C for Syllabus A); OR any combination of results in at least 5 HKDSE subjects (including Level 2 or above in Chinese and English): Level 2 or above in NSS subjects, “Attained” or above in ApL subjects (subject to a maximum of 2 subjects), and Grade E or above in Other Language subjects; (iii) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; (iv) strong interpersonal skills and good customer service attitude; (v) the willingness to learn new skills, and work independently and as a team member; and (vi) good computer skills, including the use of MS Office applications and Chinese word-processing. Relevant work experience in libraries, including use of library management system, is preferred.

Project Co-ordinator II 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Library invites applications for a Project Co-ordinator II. The appointee will be initially assigned to the Learning Services Department of the CUHK Library. This department is committed to providing a wide range of library services to View in SharePoint support teaching and learning activities of the university community. Major duties include (a) assisting with the daily operations of the Team; (b) promoting and organizing projects and library events; (c) preparing and maintaining social media and web presence; (d) assisting in design planning and maintenance of e-learning materials; (e) assisting in workshops, orientation, tours and other learning activities; (f) supervising staff and student helpers; (g) recording and compiling usage statistics; (h) handling various library related enquiries; (i) managing learning spaces and AV equipment; (j) performing counter duties and roving services; (k) assisting in special and ad-hoc projects; and (l) other tasks as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends or on holidays at library helpdesks are required. 

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree; (ii) a good command of both spoken and written Chinese and English; (iii) a sound knowledge of e-learning applications and collaborative learning tools; (vi) the ability to work independently, collaboratively with colleagues and as part of project teams; and (vii) excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with a customer-focused approach. At least 2 years of post-qualification working experience in academic libraries, including use of library management systems, is preferred. Good working experience in planning, organizing and promoting learning activities in face-to-face, online and hybrid settings, as well as good knowledge of HTML, multimedia design and editing will be advantageous.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library invites applications for a Clerical Assistant.

Reporting to the Head of Cataloguing Department, the appointee will assist in a re-classification project for The Universities Service Centre for China Studies Collection (USC Collection). Duties include (a) providing clerical and logistics support; (b) records updating; (c) physical processing; and (d) other tasks as assigned.

Applicants should have (i) completed secondary education; (ii) fast and accurate English and Chinese word-processing skill; (iii) basic computer knowledge (such as MS Word and Excel); (iv) a good command of spoken English and Chinese; and (v) a self-motivated, positive, and hard-working attitude.

Appointment will be made on a 2-year contract.

The appointee will be assigned to the Acquisitions Department of CUHK Library. Duties include (a) handling print journal records, reviewing and updating journal holdings information in accordance with prescribed standards and guidelines; and (b) other tasks as assigned.

Applicants should have (i) completed secondary education; (ii) Grade E/Level 2 or above in at least 5 subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English; OR any combination of results in at least 5 HKDSE subjects (including Level 2 or above in Chinese and English): Grade E or above in Other Language subjects; (iii) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; (iv) good knowledge of computer applications including MS Office as well as fast and accurate Changjie Chinese character input; (v) attention to detail; (vi) strong interpersonal skills, and (vii) self-motivation. At least 2 years’ working experience in academic libraires is preferred.

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature, Cultural Studies, or a related discipline; (ii) a good command of both spoken and written Chinese and English; (iii) good computer skills in using Office software and web authoring tools; (iv) good communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; and (v) self-motivation and the ability to work independently. Proven knowledge of Hong Kong literature will be an advantage.

Reporting to the Special Collections Librarian, the appointee will work in the Special Collections Department. Duties include (a) supporting a physical collection and online databases on Hong Kong Literature; (b) providing assistance in exhibitions and educational events; (c) liaising with Hong Kong Literature Research Centre; (d) editing HK Literature Newsletter; (e) performing counter duties; and (f) other duties as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends or on holidays at library helpdesks are required.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for two years with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
