The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library invites applications for a Library Assistant II.

The Learning Garden is a technology-rich learning environment equipped with computer workstations, high-performance multimedia workstations designed for film editing and graphic design, as well as comprehensive 3D printing and scanning facilities. The MakerSpace provides AR and VR facilities, creative media production space for video and VR content as well as maker workspace equipped with various production tools in the Learning Garden.

The appointee will be initially assigned to the Learning Services Department of the CUHK Library. Major duties include (a) providing counter and roving service; (b) handling front-line enquiries; (c) providing clerical and administrative support to the Learning Garden and MakerSpace; (d) providing clerical and administrative support to the MakerSpace workshops and projects; (e) assisting users to operate MakerSpace equipment; and (f) other tasks as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends or on holidays are required.

Applicants should have (i) completed secondary education; (ii) Grade E or above in at least 5 subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English (Minimum Grade C for Syllabus A), OR any combination of results in at least 5 HKDSE subjects (including Level 2 or above in Chinese and English): Level 2 or above in NSS subjects, “Attained” or above in ApL subjects (subject to a maximum of 2 subjects), and Grade E or above in Other Language subjects; (iii) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; (iv) strong interpersonal skills and good customer service attitude; (v) the willingness to learn new skills, and work independently and as a team member; and (vi) experience in using design/editing tools, such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Knowledge of 3D printing and scanning as well as virtual reality (VR) will be advantageous.

Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.

Assistant Librarian II (carrying the job title of ‘Digital Learning Librarian and Faculty Liaison Librarian (Science)’, Learning Services) – (230002U7)

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Library is seeking a dynamic and innovative Liaison Librarian to support the Faculty of Science as well as to support digital learning to students and staff. Faculty Liaison and Learning Services encompasses working with academic staff to support their teaching and research, as well as providing digital/information literacy training and support services for our students.


Reporting to the Head of Research & Learning Support, the appointee will (a) provide liaison services to a CUHK Faculty, ensuring strong communication between the Library and faculty, and the development of services and collections to meet the university’s curricular and research needs; (b) promote, enhance and deliver digital/information literacy training and activities; (c) develop and enhance appropriate learning resources; (d) apply educational technology to support student learning in the library context; (e) coordinate and conduct library guided tours; (f) coordinate library in-depth reference service; and (g) undertake other duties and projects as assigned. Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends or on holidays are required.

Applicants should have (i) a good university degree plus a postgraduate qualification in librarianship and information science, or related discipline; (ii) normally three years of post-qualification relevant experience at a professional or senior paraprofessional level; (iii) sound knowledge and understanding of academic liaison activities and digital/information literacy as well as educational technology in a University setting; (iv) knowledge and experience in delivering programmes and services particularly for users focused around digital/information literacy and digital learning; (v) evidence of management/supervisory abilities; (vi) excellent written and oral communication skills; (vii) a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the Library, with faculty members and university administrative departments; and (viii) a high level of practical IT skills, video and image editing skills. Proficiency in Chinese and English is desirable.

Appointment will initially be made on a contract basis for two years, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
