Library Assistants in the Library

Selected candidate will work in one of the following areas:

  1. Acquisitions Section


  • assist the acquisitions of library materials in all formats and all operations;
  • manage bibliographic, order and item records;
  • follow up the reading lists in course outlines;
  • assist in process new arrivals materials and compiling acquisitions statistics.
  • Systems Section
  • assist in development and maintenance of web applications and websites;
  • assist in administration of library management systems, library servers and library applications;
  • provide IT-related services and support to both library office and users;
  • co-ordinate with other units in the University and external vendors;
  • working knowledge of web skills is preferred.

Selected candidates are necessary to:

  • take up various library operational and counter duties;
  • perform other tasks as assigned; and
  • shift duties on evenings, weekends and public holidays will be required.

Candidates should possess:

  • a higher diploma or university degree in library management or information science or information technology or related disciplines;
  • have good interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • practical experience in provision of support services to users;
  • good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese;
  • good computer skills, e.g. MS Office applications; and
  • have relevant working experience in academic library will be advantageous.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Learning Support Librarian (at the rank of Assistant Librarian)

The Library is inviting applications for an assistant librarian whose job title is ‘Learning Support Librarian’. Reporting to the University Librarian, the appointee will be responsible for:

(a)        creating the web content of online learning, subject guides and other information literacy platforms;

(b)        developing printed and online user guides and instructional materials;

(c)        delivering face-to-face and online information literacy classes to users;

(d)        providing face-to-face and online services and activities for research consultation;

(e)        planning library exhibition activities and cultural events;

(f)        serving as library liaison to academic departments; and

(g)        performing other tasks as assigned.

The appointee will be required to work on Information Desk shift duties on some evenings/weekends/public holidays.

Applicants should have:

(i)        a Master’s degree in information management or library science;

(ii)       an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua);

(iii)      proficiency in computer applications, such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.;

(iv)  experience in developing library information literacy contents;

(v)   experience in producing infographic contents;

(vi)  strong interpersonal and communication skills; and

(vii) a positive attitude and ability to work as a team player.

Having experience working in academic libraries will be an advantage.
