HKLA Annual General Meeting 2017
The HKLA Annual General Meeting is a fun opportunity to meet with fellow members at the end of the year. We were especially excited to gather in December because 2018 marks the 60th anniversary of HKLA! In a special video presentation, many of our distinguished former HKLA Presidents wished us a happy birthday (do look for the video on our Facebook page if you haven’t already seen it!).
Guest speaker, Ms Malavika Jayaram (Executive Director of Digital Asia Hub, Hong Kong) gave an insightful talk on “The Future of Libraries: Remixing Past and Future, Analog and Digital”. After a year of dedicated work, it was important for all of us to reflect on Ms Jayaram’s message: libraries have an important role in preserving information, and also ensuring a secure future for information. We must preserve information for posterity without limiting ourselves to either analog or digital methods.
We were honoured to present several fellowships and awards to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our members. Two members were conferred the HKLA Fellowship in recognition of their contributions to the profession, and three members were awarded through our bursary and award schemes. Lastly, our President and Vice President presented certificates to students of librarianship and contributors to HKLA projects. It was great to celebrate the accomplishments of our fellow HKLA members!
Do login to the Members’ Portal in the newly revamped HKLA website to view some of the AGM documents, or visit our Facebook page to see more photos. I’m looking forward to a great 2018 for HKLA!
