Library Assistant (Acquisitions Section) (Temporary Appointment) (Full-time/Part-time) (two posts)

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

(a)    perform bibliographical and holding check in the Integrated Library System and Library Discovery Tool; 

(b)    assist in compiling, and updating lists of printed and electronic collections;

(c)    assist in identifying titles and items for de-selection from the collections;

(d)    communicate with other Library Sections on updating bibliographic and item records;

(e)    assist in compiling and reporting collection statistics;

(f)    assist with other duties in the Acquisitions Section; and

(g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have five passes in HKCEE including English Language (at least Grade C if Syllabus A; Level 2 if results are obtained from 2007 onwards), Chinese Language (Level 2 if results are obtained from 2007 onwards) and Mathematics; or a combination of results in five HKDSE subjects of Level 2 in New Senior Secondary subjects / “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects / Grade E in Other Language subjects, and the five subjects must include English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics plus 5 years of relevant experience; or a recognised Certificate or Diploma or an equivalent qualification;

(b)    have a good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese;

(c)    be proficient in Microsoft Office software including Excel and Word; and

(d)    have good interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to work within a team.  

Preference will be given to those with proficiency in Excel functions, pivot table, macro or VBA and/or working experience in using integrated library systems such as Ex Libris Alma or Primo.    

Conditions of Service

For full-time appointment, a highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. 

For part-time appointment, the remuneration rate is HK$110 per hour.

Assistant Librarian II (Academic Support)

Duties

The appointee will work with a team of professional librarians and support staff to deliver quality library services in support of the University’s research and learning initiative.  He/She will be required to:

(a) provide instructional and consultation services for students and faculty on finding, using and managing information effectively;

(b) develop the Library’s information literacy programmes, and collaborate with faculty to integrate these programmes into the academic curriculum;

(c) support the scholarly communication needs of faculty and research students on dissemination and preservation of research output, enhancing research impact, and using bibliographical citation management tools;

(d) create interactive contents, instruction videos and innovative services to enhance Library’s e-learning support services;

(e) serve as the Faculty Librarian of the assigned Faculty/Schools to ensure Library’s resources and services meet their learning, teaching and research needs;

(f) support collection development of print and online resources;

(g) provide reference services; and

(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a recognised degree with postgraduate qualification in Library Science or Information Science, and  preferably post-qualification experience in information work in an academic library setting;

(b) experience with library instruction and reference services, and good knowledge of information literacy, database searching, bibliographical management tools, citation analysis, author identification systems, and new forms of scholarly communication;

(c) excellent interpersonal, instructional, presentation, and customer service skills; and

(d) excellent communication skills in English and Chinese.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
